In their article published in the journal Rehabilitation Research, Policy and Education researchers Daniel Lustig and Stephen Zankas of The University of Memphis compared the work values preferences of individuals with disabilities with those of a sample of workers employed in a Southeastern university. They found that those individuals who sought assistance with reentering the workforce preferred independence and support while workers in the general population preferred recognition and relationships.
